Besides, you don't just sweep past grievances under the rug anyways that's just rude.

And that is how you repeat all the tragedies of history.

Yes addressing the wrongs in the past and opening dialog to heal them is going to repeat tragedies!

How far up your ass is your head?
That may be the single gayest thing I have ever read on this board. Or the old one. ;)

You know, I bet he was surprised to find that there was a city in Ohio with the same name as his.

And what're the odds of that! :o

I'm pretty sure he was referring to sweeping them under the rug.
I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

99% of what's wrong with the world today is rooted in people forcing their ancestors' grievances on each other. It may be human, but it's certainly not rational.

Except Natives are still treated like absolute shit, even today. On top of casual racism, they have to deal with the government seeking new ways to screw them out of their land and indigenous rights. Not only that, but they're still suffering the long-term effects of colonialism: Poverty, loss of culture, languages facing extinction, etc. And then there are the still-living survivors of residential schools and racist, sexist 20th century laws designed to "kill the Indian in the man". I'd love to see you try to tell my late grandfather, who was robbed of his Indian status after he and his siblings were placed in a Catholic orphanage and wound up losing all connections with their father's culture (yet still had to deal with racism based on having visible Native ancestry), that these are just his "ancestors' grievances".

This isn't ancient history -- it's an ongoing problem, and glorifying one of the men who set all of this in motion is in pretty bad taste, if you ask me.

This. Just to show that it's still relevant, many of the Native American programs got cut when the shutdown happen. Saying that this is just past grievance is erasure. Besides, you don't just sweep past grievances under the rug anyways that's just rude.

No kidding. How can you combat modern issues if you don't understand the root of the problem? It's not like history exists in a vacuum; the injustice inflicted on past generations can carry down for centuries.

And that's not even getting into modern colonialism which, while subtler, is still very much in existence. See the Canadian government vs. Native land rights or the high rates of indigenous children being seized by the state and separated from their heritage, for starters.

Considering what he said previously, it probably wasn't what he was referring to.

"Columbus had a cabin boy,
The crew all called him Nipper.
He lined his ass with broken glass
And circumcised the skipper."

By Christ he had a dandy!
'Til we crushed his cock with a jagged rock
for coming in the brandy..."

Third mate's name was Morgan,
By god he was a gorgon.
From half past eight he played 'til late
upon the captain's organ.

I have to work today.  While sick.  As if my mood couldn't get any worse.
There is light and darkness in the world, to be sure.  However, there's no harm to be had in walking in the shade or shadows.

Ironchew's already admitted to being a (shitty) troll, so yeah.
Guys, this is getting creepy. Can we talk about cannibalism instead?

I sympathize completely. However, to use against us. Let me ask you a troll. On the one who pulled it. But here's the question: where do I think it might as well have stepped out of all people would cling to a layman.

Ah. And I saw his previous post on this thread.

The Captain's wife was Mable
and by god was she able
to give the crew their daily screw
upon the galley table.
