Slave trading sovereign citizen going to court.
« on: May 23, 2016, 11:35:37 am »
https://www.splcenter.org/hatewatch/2016/04/08/police-find-%E2%80%98house-horrors%E2%80%99-arrest-sovereign-citizen

TL;DR version: Dude is arrested for having had four women trapped in his home being used as sex slaves, for forced prostitution and to steal their government aid. Police also found evidence of child abuse. Also, he seems to be a sovereign citizen.

Quote
“It is against my religion to be represented by someone of another nation, so I may as well represent myself,” Travis told the court.

“I'm a natural-born human of the American land,” Travis said. “I choose not to do business with this court. I ask that this case be dismissed.”

I admit that my knowledge of the legal system in USA is limited but I am pretty sure that your crimes will not be forgiven just by asking the judge to ignore them.

Quote
The judge denied that request.

Apparently the judge agrees.

I know that the idiocy and evil of Sovereign citizens is nothing new but I recently came across them and decided to google their stuff to find something funny to laugh at as I had nothing better to do. ...In case it needs to be said this story killed my smile.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:

I'm appalled at this disgusting hypocrisy, but I can't really say I'm surprised.

What an adorable idiot.  I'm sure that he'll spend the rest of his days being laughed at by the Crips.

Ironbite-before they shank him in the shower for being racist.

A Sovereign Citizen nut AND a loathsome tool on top of everything else.

The world would be a brighter place if this pile of ooze just died.

Has anyone ever heard of a Sovereign Citizen who didn't think of themselves free to violate laws AND also believing that they should be under the protection of the law?

They are a very contradictory lot and I am still not convinced that most of them are just criminals who are using it as a weird defense hoping that they can confuse the authorities to let them go free.

They're also by and large Lost Causers.

And living proof that Sherman did not burn nearly enough to erase the sheer audacity of the root of this belief system.

There's also quite a bit of mental illness among their population.

I also expect them to gravitate to movements like the KKK or equivalent to express their ideals.

Ironbite-and they rise pretty far in the ranks as well.

I mean. A sovereign citizen is someone who thinks they found a clever loophole in the law making them completely exempt from paying taxes or whatever. Their defining trait is their belief that they can choose how the law applies to them.

Quote from: Jordan Duram
It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?

Being required by someone else’s religious beliefs to behave contrary to one’s sexual identity is degrading and disrespectful.
