For our show yesterday, I had to take the subway to meet my singer with the van so we could put some fuel on it. It runs on natural gas, so there are only a few stations we can use to fill it, and I'm currently the only one with money in the bank, it seems. While we do this, my bandmates/roommates have one job: take all the gear in the apartment out front so we can load up and leave quickly. About an hour later, my singer and I pull up to a completely empty curb, no gear anywhere. Since I'd left something inside anyways, I went into the apartment building to grab it/tell said bandmates to stop being such lazy fucks.
Then, after our set that night, I'm the only one putting our gear back in the van. Our singer and drummer had valid excuses; the singer was performing with another band, and our drummer had to get to work. The other two? Nowhere to be found. Sorry guys, I'm not your roadie (contrary to the jokes about a band's rhythm section). Next time you decide not to help load gear, I'm leaving it on the curb, and whoever gets there first is welcome to leave with it.
