Maybe I'm just stupid, but Unity of Command is in part a fantasy game: the AI in attacking the players supply lines is at times completely suicidal. A unit will breakthrough and cut off supply, even if it leaves a gap in their line and it means that unit will get destroyed the next turn. No military has ever been so suicidal in such a manner.

You know that moment in Fallout 2 when you finally get the car? It's an amazing feeling. Being able to move faster than a slug and have a place to store all the crap that won't fit in your inventory is simply a godsend.

Only downside is that it uses energy weapon ammo as fuel...they are, if nothing else, excellent sources of entertainment when you manage to melt people or disintegrate em.  Especially the melting.  One of the only things that's disappointed me in the last few Fallout games, the melting is just too...pretty, too clean.  Fallout 2 doesn't pull any punches with the melting, making it far more worth it.

One of the true drawbacks to 3d games, animation is done by a skeleton rather thna frame by frame so there's less fun to be had with it. Unless someone really busts ass that is.

I always find that by the time I've cleared out New Reno, I have enough energy ammo to both fuel the car and shoot things, especially with the fuel cell regulator.

Then again, Fallout 3 does have the railroad rifle. Any game where you can pin people's extremities to walls using railroad spikes fired from a steam powered rifle that whistles with every shot is quite alright in my book.

Work on fangame for year and a half, get shut down after release 1 month later.

Someone has never heard of the eventual fates of fangames before.

For some random reason I decided to go demoknight during Hale Mode in TF2.  Darth Vader was summoned as the boss. This video was born:

Man, this makes me remember my time going into a fist fight with GabeN as a Heavy. Good times.

So apparently I'm going to be checking out Guildwars 2 here before long, any suggestions on not dying horribly?

Aside from the standard fare of keeping track of your health and such...once you get into putting points in your Traits, invest a few points into whichever trait line gives you additional Toughness.  The extra armor you get from it will be invaluable later on, and those lines almost always come with nice defensive abilities once you get enough points invested in em.

Also, if you're playin a Thief, I suggest bumping up your precision as much as ya can.  With dual daggers/pistols, the high crit chance you'll get from high precision, and the speed at which you can deal damage with those two sets of weapons, you'll be able to DPS most standard mooks pretty easily and the mid-tier elite mooks shouldn't be too much more difficult.  But, for big bosses, switch to your pistols.  Always.

Guild Wars 2 was almost completely wrecked for me because of my time reading Massively, a news blog dealing in MMO news.  You have no idea of how many people believe this game to be the messiah of onling gaming and all other games inferior.

Don't let a couple assholes ruin a perfectly good game for ya.  I can tell ya from personal experience, most of the people in-game ain't like that.  Actually...they're pretty friendly and helpful.

Naw, it ain't the messiah of online gaming, but it is good.  To me, at any rate.

Wow, it's amazing how potent the night vision + sharpshooter perks are in Fallout 2. 118 points in small guns and I have a 95% chance to hit a target in the eye, from around 9 hexes away, in the middle on the night with a scoped hunting rifle. I have to say, it's a beautiful thing.

Yeah, once you break 100 things get a bit nuts, particularly with the right perks.

But yeah, checked out character creation and I was mildly impressed. Given my mmo history that's actually saying something, the game I've spent the most time with had people subscribe largely to play with it's character creation. Not entirely sold on the rest of the mechanics so far, but I'm still figuring them out.  For a ten minute exposure all I can really say is, where is the 'dressed' option for female characters?
