Combat does get way easier a little later in the game, I assume you are at Flotsam?

I'm pretty far into Bioshock Infinate and I must say that Elizabeth is the first (and so far only) "partner" ncp that hasn't screwed me over or made me want to rage quit. I don't really feel protective of her, but I like having her around.

Yeah, when I first realized you had her with you, I thought, 'great, another stupid escort mission.'  Then the game right out mentioned that you didn't need to protect her.  Most of her, 'here, catch,' moments helped me so no complaints there.  My only complaint about her was in the ending, but I won't spoil it for those who haven't gotten that far.
