Let me first say that I found this to be pretty funny because of the subversion of expectations.  It reminds me of this comic.



That being said, if it were real, I would find it far more appalling that if she had hit him for the same reason.  I do, however, thing that size and strength has something to do with that.  He is a head taller and probably 1.5 - 2 times her weight.

A slap isn't exactly a fatal blow. The difference in their size and strength probably translates to "It hurt more," rather than "He broke her jawbone."

I stopped being chivalrous about never hitting girls when a big gangsta chick in 9th grade started being a violent bully toward me. I never actually hit her (since I almost always engage in violence as self-defense purely so I have that excuse to fall back on), but I came close a few times.

Fun fact, I've never actually hit anyone outside of learning how to box from my Dad.

Well, that's not quite true.  I stomped on a neighborhood bully's foot once.  Then I felt bad, confessed to my parents about it, then apologized to her.  (She accepted my apology with a lot of grace, from what I recall.)

But I've never actually swung my fist and hit anyone.

I've never hit anybody but my little brother, and I am quite certain that he was being a butthead and deserved it every time.

I did tackle somebody and pin him to the ground once when I was in 14.  He had been picking on me for awhile (which I didn't really care about), but then he crossed the line picking on a girl I liked, so I didn't really see any other option at the time.  What makes this a good story is that my gym teacher congratulated me afterwards (both for standing up for myself and for winning).  What makes it an even better story is that years later I saw this person on the news because he was arrested for assault.
