How do these idiots NOT see that depicting a black president as the master of a slave ship filled with white children is incredibly offensive? Of all the possible imagery and metaphors they could have chose, THAT'S what they went with? Some pinhead media adviser sat in his office one day and suddenly thought, "Obama....black guy....SLAVES! That's the ticket!"

At this point, you have to wonder if they're doing it on purpose.

Personally, I think they are. I wouldn't go so far as to accuse all the repubs of it, but I don't think the ones who are pulling this kind of shit are doing it by accident. Lets face it, in far too many places telling people that the niggers are going to take over and pay whitey back is a pretty compelling message. Even if they don't actually believe actual payback part, the fact that them darkies are getting uppity is galling enough to them.

The real question is do enough voters believe this, or is it doomed to fail? The sad thing is, I'm not sure what the answer is.

For those that don't know, there were black confederate regiments. They were forced into service and spent all their time doing manual labor (like slaves) because their leaders feared they would swap sides if lead into battle...like the Union treated blacks in the army that much better (operation meat shields anyone?)

Not just that. There's a degree of whitewashing and downplaying in the social conservative circles that leads to dumb shit like this. Or watermelons on the White House lawn. Sometimes ignorance plays a part but a lot of it is frankly an inexcusable level of selective knowledge.
