Muslim clerics in Canada issued a fatwa on Saturday against honour killings, domestic violence and hatred of women.
“These crimes are major sins in Islam, punishable by the court of law and almighty Allah,†said Prof. Imam Syed Soharwardy, representing 34 clerics affiliated with the Islamic Supreme Council of Canada.
At first, I was concerned when I heard "fatwa," but upon further review...I'm actually okay with this. Granted, the ones who really need to hear it in the Middle East will dismiss it entirely, but I consider this a good start. Just wish it happened sooner.

I thought it would be refreshing to bring in some good news for a change. I think being part of FSTDT, I have to remind myself that religion and douchebaggery don't necessarily go hand-in-hand. If you get to the point that you start hating religion just because it's religion, and don't look at the deeds of people, you become no better than the fundies we quote.

If you get to the point that you start hating religion just because it's religion, and don't look at the deeds of people, you become no better than the fundies we quote.

And there we have it: Muslims are not all chaotic evil. Islam is not a single undivided religion, there are many interpetations of islam just like christianity is a divided mess.
Now if we could get these people to be louder than the "Kill all unbelievers" groups of islam. (Or maybe it's just that media and islamophobics pay more attention to the more crazier parts of islam and ignore the sane muslims.)

Like others, I also saw the title here and immediately feared the worst. I am pleasantly surprised, as well as relieved. Of course, the people who need to be told these things aren't going to hear it and even if they did they wouldn't pay attention, but it's really nice to see the higher-ups taking a vocal, united stand against a horrible wrong committed in the name of the religion they have dedicated their lives to.
If only they could be louder and drown out the assholes.

Huh. Pretty interesting stuff! I don't agree with everything he has to say, but I love how he says it. Rather than just going, "HEY MY RELIGION SAYS THIS AND THAT!", he's explaining his interpretation of the religion. (Of course he can cite the Koran to do it--just as you can cite the Bible or Torah or Talmud or anything else to support pretty much any position imaginable.)

Yeah I like his art style. Although I do remember seeing similar drawings that were advocating some horrible stuff, but that was back when I was still visiting 4chan so those images might have been shopped. Or it could have been a completely different artist.

I bet it won't stop a single anti-Muslim from spouting that "where are the moderate Muslims?" crap they go on with.

This certainly is good news, and I'm glad to hear it. And, like Russell Peters said (paraphrasing), we don't see the good, nice, moderate Muslims because their boring, so the media gives us the crazy ones.
