I'm all for second chances, but I don't think that's unreasonable.

If he's not going to be around children, why not?

The reason he's not going to be around children is that the church said, "Sorry kids, this convicted child molester's more important than you. GTFO."

It's not as if he chose a profession where he wouldn't have much or any contact with children. He chose a profession which by it's nature puts him in contact with an authority over children on a frequent and regular basis, and everyone else is having to bend over backwards to let him.

Ok, so again, what's your answer? We're not locking pedophiles up for life, they're expected to reintegrate into society, so when this one tries to do just that, everyone comes out flaming.

I have no sympathy for him. Shane already quoted in another thread a witness account of this guy. He's got no remorse from his crime and apparently isn't a good Christian either. Basically he's a psychopath who's getting way more sympathy and bare ass-covering from his church than he deserves.

1) The church does have children, and families with children. Their "solution" of kicking the kids out does not help prevent him from molesting children in the future. Like Shane said (before you ignored her), pastors often go over to their flock's homes on personal visits. Are they supposed to make the kids GTFO of the house too when the pastor's visiting?

2) Not being a pastor does not mean the end of the world. Heck, he can still be involved with evangelism efforts (i.e., writing pamphlets or shit like that) without being near children. There are jobs that pay better than being a pastor anyway, and don't require being around kids. Maybe he should look into them before getting his flock to act like it's okay to house an unrepentant pedophile who has not been through any therapy or rehabilitation.

Pod...what you're missing here is that the church doesn't think its an issue. While they are not allowing the children to come to the service, many pastors visit the homes of their congregations. Many of the flock likely think he is innocent. He should not, under any circumstances be allowed to continue this type of work.

This man needs therapy and given his atrocious history, he will repeat this transgression again. I really don't see how you are fine with him continuing his work. You carry a "it happened but he has to live" kind of mentality. While this is true, he needs to change professions. Other people have had to change their given profession due to a multitude of reasons not involving the sexual assault of children. There should be absolutely no chance for him to ever be a religious leader to ANYONE when he has multiple charges and is a rapist.

This isn't some grey area. This is common sense and human decency.

Did I misread the article, or didn't it say he's not allowed to have any access to children, and may have supervised access after he completes rehabilitation?

I assumed that would extend to access to children in parishoners homes.

And don't you think his parole supervisors and local police are going to be keeping a very close eye on him? I really don't think this is like he's being handed the keys to the candy store.

Edit: I'd also guess that what Zachski predicted a while back is going to happen, people who have kids are likely to find themselves another church anyway.
