The Roman Catholic Church recently retranslated the missal used for mass. Had something to do with making a more accurate translation to convey the true spirit of the words. Because, you know, the average speaker of English will so totally grok “consubstantial†better than “one in being.â€Â
Anyway, one of the odder changes was to the response to “The Lord be with you.†We used to return that wish with “And also with you.†Pleasant bit of reciprocity, if you ask me. But the new response is, “And with your spirit.†I’m just not sure what sense that is supposed to make.
In any case, “And also with you†is so hard coded into most people, that you still get a lot of people using the old response. Though I think there may be a few rebels doing it intentionally.
