The Bureau: Xcom Declassified was kinda alright, got it in the humble bundle with the short-but-great Darkness II

Marioca.

Yay! America is represented by an overweight guy!

Been playing the hell out of Shovel Knight and FotNS2. Fun timez.

Not just that, an overweight guy who isn't American lol.

I thought Mario and Luigi were from Brooklyn.

Brooklyn, the neighborhood in the Mushroom Kingdom?
Still can't think of a signature a year later.

I thought that was just that god awful movie. If it is actually canon, then it clashes quite nicely with Yoshi's Island and Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time.

Mario Bros. is set in the sewers of New York, and The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! shows Mario and Luigi living in Brooklyn.

The "canon" explanation, I think, is something like Mario and Luigi being plumbers who get transported to the Mushroom Kingdom via a magical drain. Though the existence of Mario canon is dubious at best.

I think they were originally from Brooklyn, but it got retconned to Italy for one reason or another.

Nintendo must've noticed that they have Italian rather than New York accents.

I think they were always supposed to be Italian-American.

Unless they're first generation, Italian Americans don't sound anything like Italians in terms of accent.

I think they were always supposed to be Italian-American.

If that's the case then they really fucked up with their accents in the games (not that their accents are authentic representations of real Italian accents either,  they're more like possibly-racist caricatured stereotypes).  Unless they're 1st gen immigrants as suggested earlier.

Unless they're first generation, Italian Americans don't sound anything like Italians in terms of accent.

And Italians don't sound anything like Mario, so the circle is complete.

I actually have no idea how an Italian-American accent sounds like, so I have no idea if the whole "itsa me, Mario!" thing is a supposed to be stereotypical Italian accent or stereotypical Italian-American.

Silly, everyone knows Mario is a immortal dinosaur man from the dawn of time empowered by psychoactive drugs from the previous universe and a powered exoskeleton!

Luigi is merely Yoshi wearing a meat suit, filled with a thousand condoms full of THC. You ever see what happens when they burst? Not a pretty sight.

I've been playing Unturned recently. It's kinda like a blocky DayZ, that apparently started life as a Roblox gamemode. I like that you and your friends can set up a group, which lets you see each other's location within a certain distance and disables friendly fire.

In the Uk at least the whole "Its-a me, Mario!" thing is a stereotype of Italian accents.  I assume it's the same in other english sepaking countries.
