It is almost memetic now to despise reality TV.

Its fake. Its so vapid. Everyone on there is plastic, the guys are on steroids (well, okay, that one applies mostly to Jersey Shore), and a laundry list of other complaints.

Well, it looks like the negative view has become so widespread that people are tuning out of the Kardashians, Honey Boo Boo, and Duck Dynasty. I still cannot see who would watch such shows, and how Jersey Shore became "popular" is a mystery.

I have to wonder how much of a dip it'll take before these vapid nonsense shows are taken off the air.

Well, from what I've heard, Reality TV doesn't need much to stay afloat.

Even if they went back to just being the Hitler Channel, I'd be happy.

Me, too.

This is encouraging news.

Exactly this. Reality TV is the broadcast programming equivalent of spam: it's so cheap to produce in such vast quantities that the producers need hardly any eyeballs at all to keep going -- and there are eyeballs out there that love this stuff.
Consumption is not a politically combative act — refraining from consumption even less so.

A few months back, my mom was really excited to learn that her cable company was offering a free preview of the History Channel, since she loves history. I almost didn't have the heart to tell her what it's become.
