You know, with a metric fucktonne of WWII games out there, I'm a little surprised there aren't more decent, well-known WWI games out.  Like, the only strictly WWI game I've played or even heard of is Red Baron 3D.  Admittedly, Red Baron 3D was pretty damned awesome.

With all the "real is brown" going on, wouldn't some bright bulb out there say, "What's the most brown a war has ever gotten?  Oh!  The mud-covered trench warfare of WWI!"  Grime, dust, mud, primitive tanks, shitty French machine guns that look like they were designed by a child with Down's, fucking mustard gas attacks...the list goes on.  If nothing else, you could make a game like SpecOps: The Line, only set in WWI, and likely add more horror to it because that shit was fucking grueling and painful and brutal as hell.

I'd recommend the free version of Ace of Spades. It's not set in WWI, but it's basically a shooter crossed with Minecraft. Combined with the really long matches, it has easily the best trench warfare ever seen in a game.

You'd have a really hard time designing a halfway believable campaign in such a setting, given how suicidal bayonet charges across no-man's land were a staple tactic for the first couple of years of the war. I suppose there's a little more scope for it in the final year or so, once tanks become a thing and the upper brass finally figure out how to use infantry in ways other than running into machine gun fire, but anything before that will be quite a challenge to say the least.

True, it'd be a challenge, but it'd also be a fucking change.  Its like, there's this whole, gigantic thing in history that's practically ignored because the sequel had Nazis.

Also, this is probably gonna be a tad offensive to some, but...did the natives in Dead Island piss anyone else off besides me?  At least, before...

You realize that they literally worship the zombie virus and endeavour to all become zombies.

Then, they had to go and make the nice scientist dude from someone who just misunderstood their culture to a complete dickhead right before he got killed.  It was just such a fucking ass-pull.  No, he couldn't have put the native girl in the cage to try and protect her from the zombies, but she'd gone in there because he was draining her of all her blood before callously referring to her as a "savage" and being surprised that she can talk.

I was far, FAR too pleased when the survivors shot the fucking witch doctor dude in the head for trying to kill his daughter for no fucking reason.
