What to do with the forums?

Keeping the forums where they are now, and as they sit is not good for anyone involved. So after a good deal of discussion I have two options.

1.) We return to ye'old proboards forum, free, no NSFW, some ads to ignore. I keep it around as an emergency backup should we need it. This could be one of those times.

2.) We take the current boards from a few hours ago and move it to a seperate server. I assume full administrative duties, and make some changes I've been sitting on. Some won't matter terribly, so I'll detail them should this be done, the one thing that I will say is NSFW is going away. I'm not willing to administrate it.

I'd put a joke option of 'Noo! my porn' into the poll, but frankly the interest in Smurfette's sexlife disturbs me to the point I'm not really willing to humor it anymore.

There's a relatively short time line on this as I don't wish to waste the time of the person willing to rehost this for me, so get those thoughts and votes in quick folks.

I'm in favor of moving the current boards to a new server. We've already done too much bouncing between different forums.

Server's cPanel based. Trivial to switch it to non-cPanel, however. All you'd need would be the SQL, the attachments folder and then reinstall it on the new server. :U

The issue, of course, would be DNS. It'll take at least a week for DNS to update. (Because ISPs nameservers update ridiculously slowly)

I'm predicting the general sentiment is to move to a new board, so that's where I'll throw my vote in.

A new server may be the better option.  Keeping the proboards as a back up works best, too.

That reminds me why I didn't present a completely new board as a solution.

To be honest we've done a lot of moves and I'd rather not do another. Beyond that, I'm dealing with an office move along with designing a data warehouse, while undergoing training so that I might know what I'm doing with that design. So I'm not particularly keen on figuring out new forum software right now.

I really do prefer the layout of these boards over ProBoards, and I've got PMs and such here that I'd really hate to lose.  So, a server migration seems like the best option, to me.  We can keep ProBoards as a backup, of course, in case things go tits up for a bit.

As for losing NSFW...no skin off my back.  Rip it out, and we can feast on the corpse.

I'm used to this board now and since we've been posting here for a good 6 months, I'd say let's just move this one to a new server.

Besides, we lost people in the last switch. I don't want to see more people get lost or confused.

I'm fine with NSFW going away. The only thing I hope is that the Disturbing Images thread can be saved and put elsewhere. It used to reside in the lounge, so hopefully it can go back there.

I'll do some moves for things which used to reside elsewhere. If folks want to give me a list of what to save that'll make it a bit easier.

I agree that moving the board to a new server is the best option. I much prefer this board over Proboards in terms of layout and other various features.

I'm also totally fine with losing NSFW, as the porn/naughty pics debacle is just stupid and irritating, especially what Distind mentioned about sex life obsession.
