My opinion on Vietnam is not so much that we shouldn't have gone in, it's that we were on the wrong side. If we had backed Ho Chi Minh from the start (ie, when he was fighting the French), we would have gotten a pro-US democratic Vietnam, and Ho Chi Minh would have spent his last years on the US lecture circuit.
