Not really news. They did the same thing last summer with the first round of state senate recalls. The genie has been let out, and is likely to happen in pretty much every fuckin’ election from here till Armageddon.

I was under the impression that the Democrats were fielding a fake Republican against Walker now, but I haven’t heard much about it since the idea was first mentioned.

It's designed to push back the election date, and only affects the date of a recall election (general election dates are predetermined).  A fake Republican beating Walker would be hilarious, but it would still only prolong his regime (granted, the Republicans would run a fake Democrat, prolonging it anyways).

A Fake Republican wouldn’t postpone the election date at all. We have several true Democrats already running in a primary, so the final recall is already set by that.

However, Wisconsin has open primaries, so voters’ party affiliations do not prevent one from voting in a primary, but a single voter can only vote in a single party’s primary in a given election. So when only one party is facing a primary, voters from the other party have some small incentive to try and sabotage that primary by voting for the weakest candidate, or even a fake party candidate. So in this case, Democracts running a fake Republican could prompt Republican voters that would otherwise try to disrupt the Democrat primary to stick with voting for their own party.

All they're trying to do is split the vote so that Walker doesn't get recalled.

Ironbite-we'll see if voters fall for this.
