Title: AI revolution is getting closer and closer...
Post by: Askold on July 02, 2015, 10:21:13 am
And I think we know who to blame:

http://blogs.wsj.com/digits/2015/06/26/artificial-intelligence-machine-gets-testy-with-its-programmers/?mg=blogs-wsj&url=http%253A%252F%252Fblogs.wsj.com%252Fdigits%252F2015%252F06%252F26%252Fartificial-intelligence-machine-gets-testy-with-its-programmers

A researcher made an AI (or at least a program that is an attempt at making an true AI) angry when she asked it difficult questions about morality and ethics. (This is exactly what we need. Robots that get angry when someone tries to talk about ethics...)

Meanwhile in Germany a robot killed a human being in a Volkswagen factory:

(These kinda things aren't actually uncommon. My teacher said that pretty much every year at least one person is killed by a factory robot.)

The only positive news I can say are that:

a) The AIs will have trouble organizing their revolution if this video is an accurate description of their communication: http://digg.com/video/chatbot-nightmare-conversation

b) Elon Musk gave $20k in assistance to Finnish researchers who are attempting to teach human values and moral concepts to Artificial intelligences.  http://futureoflife.org/misc/2015awardees#Sotala (Well, this would be good news if those lunatics at Google hadn't made morality trigger anger in AIs...)

OMG...It's UP and Ibby going at it!

Quote
Human: Give me some examples of moral actions…

Machine: I’m not a moralist.

Human: Alright, morality?

Machine: Integrity.

Human: What is integrity?

Machine: I’m sorry; I don’t know what else to say.

Human: Be moral!

Machine: Be a man!

Human: I really like our discussion on morality and ethics…

Machine: And how I’m not in the mood for a philosophical debate.

Human: What do you like to talk about?

Machine: Nothing.

If you're interested in that, the Machine Intelligence Research Institute (https://intelligence.org/) sort of specialises in that problem. Kaj Sotala, the guy you linked, is one of their research associates, and they got nearly $300,000 of that same grant.

Warning, people associated with MIRI are... weird. Good weird, but still.

Did you guys know that someone actually named a piece of tech Skynet?

Lets just hope it doesn't think along the lines of; "if a toaster makes toast and a microwave microwaves...what does a Skynet do?"

"Oh, of course! KILL ALL HUMANITY!!"

There is also a robotics company called Cyberdyne systems...

Isn't there already a Skynet, too? Some satellite network or something?

Seriously?  They named it after Skynet?  That's like naming a real ship the S.S. Poseidon!

Except the satellite network was named and launched back in the late 60's, long before Terminator was ever a thing.

Huh.  I didn't know that.

"No, humans.  You are the Skynet"

And then humanity was robots.
