The next sound you'll hear is me escaping this universe for one that isn't so pants on head retarded.

A pregnant woman is just a "host" that should not have the right to end her pregnancy, Virginia State Sen. Steve Martin (R) wrote in a Facebook rant defending his anti-abortion views.

Martin, the former chairman of the Senate Education and Health Committee, wrote a lengthy post about his opinions on women's bodies on his Facebook wall last week in response to a critical Valentine's Day card he received from reproductive rights advocates.

"I don't expect to be in the room or will I do anything to prevent you from obtaining a contraceptive," Martin wrote. "However, once a child does exist in your womb, I'm not going to assume a right to kill it just because the child's host (some refer to them as mothers) doesn't want it." Martin then changed his post on Monday afternoon to refer to the woman as the "bearer of the child" instead of the "host."

YEP!  Women you aren't people anymore.  You're objects who have no rights other then to bare the next generation into this world.  So go on, leave your jobs, go find a man, and do your duty.

"Host"?  So you think fetuses are parasites, senator?

Well...

That's "hostess", Senator Martin.
BTW, Steve Martin wants his name back.

Hm...if personhood starts at conception, I wonder at what point it ends for females? First period? Loss of virginity? First confirmed pregnancy? Could women who engage in risky behaviors while pregnant be charged with child endangerment?

I find it amazing that this country can be so advanced and powerful and still have so many stupid people in power. I'd be willing to bet that we would have perfected cloned organ transplants, flying cars, female Viagra and a male birth-control pill by now if not for them.

I love how he apparently thinks "bearer of children" is a vast improvement. It's still dehumanizing, genius.

Well to be fair, hosts is an entirely accurate term for a pregnant woman.

This got me thinking of women as "host" in a service industry scenario, and that the women would not be able to deny service to the fetus on grounds of age or any other form of discrimination. It is just a silly thought though.

Accurate, sure, but it's troublesome when it's used in this context.

In Arizona women could deny the fetus service if it's gay.

Somehow, I'm not surprised. At this point, I wouldn't be fazed if they started making Daemonculabae. (http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Daemonculaba#.UwyeYvldWSo) There's likely some cult in who-knows-where that is making them. I wonder how the quoted Republicans would feel about that.
I'm in science to discover and analyze God's wonderful universe, not gripe about how people don't like God.  I believe the creation/evolution debate is a waste of Christian brains (we have them, believe it or not) that could be better spent on making actual things.

Cancerous parasitic infestation...at least, I think the former classification is valid because the fetus is genetically similar to the woman, making it a derivative, instead of a totally foreign, body like a tapeworm.

Republicans never pass up an opportunity to piss off one-half (or more) of the electorate in a single statement.

In Arizona women could deny the fetus service if it's gay.

Technically, that would mean that in Arizona they would be completely unable to prevent women from aborting gay babies because those women would have the right to deny services including nutrients to the fetus on religious grounds. Hence it would be illegal to stop that women from having an abortion.

The only thing that is worrying about that whole scenario, is that the right wing would probably see the abortion of gay fetuses as a good thing.
