Progress has been made in the on-going effort to battle the condition called CTE, prevalent in NFL players and pro wrestlers. Scientists have scanned brains of living ex-NFL players and found an abnormal "Tau" protein, and this is going towards diagnosing CTE while the subjects are still alive so that their early deaths from suicide (and other factors caused by the damage in their brains) can be prevented.

CTE is also prevalent in former NHL players. This is important to acknowledge since former players suffering from the symptoms and deceased victims' families are fighting to make the league admit to the link between CTE and hockey. The league is fighting back because it is afraid of the financial concequences of having to change their product and paying compensation to the victims.
