Seapunk?
« on: October 24, 2013, 03:25:02 pm »
I may be late to this trend but I came across this word after viewing one of Azaelia's music videos and was wondering what the hell it is. Apparently it's a hipster scene but I haven't found out if it's a new trend or it's dead or what. Apparently it's big on tumblr and I don't use that website (The SJW thread scared me off of joining it.) so I was wondering if someone there can shed some light on this thing and what it is really? Might be a new thing for me to get in to.

Seapunk seems like a real stretch of the (x)punk way of naming things. Steam, diesel, cyber, and apoc punk all have a much more defined concept. From What I saw on the wiki page this is just anything bluish and aquatic themed. When I heard the term the first thing that came to mind would be a post-apocalyptic scenario involving a world covered mostly by water. (There's a movie based on that, right? Waterworld or something?) This sounds like dumb asses trying to have a cool name for "aquatic themed".
History is full of maniacs, my friend, men and women of intelect, highly perceptive individuals, who's brilliant minds know neither restraint nor taboo. Such notions are the devils we must slay for the edification of pony-kind. Even if said edification means violating the rules of decency, society, and rightousness itself.

To me, the name "seapunk" sounds like nautical themed steampunk. I was a little disappointed when I looked it up and discovered that was not the case.

My mind went directly to steampunk pirates, maybe with Jules Verene-est submarines thrown in for good measure.

Like a steampunk "Little Mermaid."

That would be kind of awesome actually.

My mind went straight to Bioschock.  I haven't looked up the term yet to see if I'm close.
