Title: Man with gun stopped by ...
Post by: KZN02 on August 22, 2013, 11:36:34 pm
... an understanding woman without a gun.

I'm glad how bloodshed was averted.

I saw that this morning on the local and nationwide news.  I thought that was so cool of her.  She certainly had the brass testes, that's for sure.
I don't know what I would have done were I in her place.  I guess it's one of those scenarios that you just... fly by the seat of your pants however you think you should.

You and me both. I'd want this lady to make sure she'd never have to pay for her own meals at restaurants or a hotel room ever again. My hat is off to her for her skill and understanding, and the prevention of bloodshed.

As to the shooter, I understand he had mental issues, and hope he gets the help he needs, and that he isn't released from prison until after he's been stabilized. If anything, he highlights the need for better mental health care. Just glad no one was injured.

Once again, from back when the Sandy Hook shootings was a highly relevant topic, it's people like these which display a need for better mental healthcare (and a more efficient healthcare system in general)... which is denied by a majority of politicians due to wide demonization of anything tied to "Socialism."

This has to be fake. The only viable solution to school shootings is to give guns to all the faculty, everyone knows this.

And the children too. Don't forget them. Everyone must be armed.

As amazing as this woman is and as awesome it is that the crisis was adverted with her bravery.
Why do the mentally deranged always target schools?

Well, here I think there's something to be said about the claims of imitable violence in the media. School shootings are frequently publicized in sensationalist ways, & it isn't hard to see that there isn't much to protect a school from an assailant. Put 2 & 2 together, you get a massacre.

Of course, this is granted that the individual wants to be taken out in a gunfight, which itself is a desire governed by many complex factors.

I think the biggest factor in this that people seem to overlook is that this guy was more concerned with making a name for himself and going out with a bang than he was with a body count.

He also pushed her to call a local news station because "he was gonna end his life and take all the cops and everybody with him."

That is what gave this woman a chance to talk him down; he wanted to wait for an audience for his mass murder. These kids were very lucky and this guy needs to be put away in the laughing academy.

Alternatively, we could shoot him.

Late in the video, the Channel 2 interviewer calls Tuff a hero. The mother of two swats that away. "Wasn't nobody but God."

Lady needs to give herself more credit.

Yeah I think it's depressing that she refuses to take credit for her courage, not many people could have done what she did I think.

It's up to her where she wants to place the credit.  I'm viewing this from a slightly different angle than most here, though.

God, G-d, the Abrahamic god. People give that bastard credit all the fucking time. I really hate it when people say shit like that.

If she's happy giving credit to God, it doesn't hurt anyone.  Just my humble opinion.

I think my tangent with people crediting a deity, most notably the Abrahamic god, is that most people give 'him' credit over trivial things rather than just a figure of speech.

You're entitled to your opinion, of course.  As we all are.  Anyway... back on topic, I suppose.

I'm pretty proud that my state has produced such a brave and compassionate person. :)

So have the conspiracy theorists come out yet?

Your post has just made me think about it: That those same shameful excuses of human beings and waste of sperm and ovum who claimed the Aurora and Sandy Hook Shootings were just staged incidents to incite antipathy of "The Right to Bear Arms" would start stating that this failed shootout was a staged incident to incite similar hostility towards our nation's outdated gun laws* (and god-forbid, the laissez-faire gun laws of states like Texas).

*Excuse me, by "outdated," I mean that for some reason, the Second Amendment is still relevant when there is no threat of invasion by the British, a fear all gone over a century ago. Worse, when the Tea Party and other wackos point out "The Constitution," the only thing they care for is pretty much that.

Ahh yes the semi-local hero out of Georgia.

I remember when I read about it the other day. It was quite a nice thing to see.

I don't necessarily have a problem with any individual crediting God, I have more of a problem with the pattern of always having to credit God, & if you question what God actually did, you're an insensitive beast.

Of course, it's difficult to address that problem, because God is typically credited in instances of high emotion.

Just a reminder why we need a good mental health system and to stop attaching stigmas to mental illnesses.
