Basically, it means when somebody's gender identity matches their biological sex.

In general, taken as prefixes, cis- is the opposite of trans- (in chemistry, for example, you have cis-trans isomerism). In this particular context, cis is short for cisgender, which as UP says above means someone who is not transgender.

I will say that the whole 'die cis scum' thing is more of a defensive, empowering type of thing rather than an actual call to, well, kill cis scum. YMMV on whether it's actually an empowering thing. None of the transfolk I interact with use it unironically or seriously.

Thanks for that link. I knew what cis meant, but I had no idea what the origin of the word was, and wrongly assumed it was some kind of acronym.

Just in case anyone else is as ignorant as I am: The terms cis is from Latin and means "on the same side".

Perhaps you could offer some suggestions for new, creative venting terms for these folks? It seems kind of pointless to worry about the use of a ranty derogatory term by possible trolls and emotionally disturbed individuals. I don't like DIAF, either, because it gets used too often by overly high-strung people. And not many people, at all or ever, deserve to die a horribly painful and terrifying death, for that matter. But it's a waste of time to complain about the use of the term by it's users.
