I hope that it's not alicorn (though I will say that if they do it, it won't be ruined forever for me) but it definitely sounds like we might be calling her Princess Twilight soon.

On the other hand, it could very easily be a bait n switch, kinda like they did with the Season 2 finale.

I don't get why Twilight + wings would be so bad? Personally, I think it'd be cool. For one thing, making Twilight a princess (alicorn or not) would really screw with the friendship dynamic, which would make for good drama.

Agh, my friend and I did simultaneous "NOOOOOOOOO!"s when he did the sudden about-face at the end.  It was going so well for 9/10ths of the episode where I was really starting to get hopeful that they were actually going the "some people are just sociopaths who will abuse your generosity and you need to be able to trust your friends to point out an abusive relationship when they see it" route, because that is a good moral, and one generally avoided by children's shows.  But FFFFFF them for playing it straight.

Also, Celestia released him because she could "use" him?  WTF is that about?  Why couldn't it be that she realized how cruel it was to imprison him and decided to try to reform him instead?  Especially since Discord revealed that he was conscious the entire time he was trapped?  This episode just made Celestia seem like a psychopath, and Discord's heel-face turn was too big a change too fast.

Celestia, Discord and Luna all play the long game.  In six-dimensional chess.  You have two Goddesses and Chaos personified, they're ALWAYS going to try to work the long game.  Thus, Celestia trying to 'use' Discord.

Also, at least Fluttershy gets some damn SPINE and has the guts to call Discord on his shit, knowing full well he'd use her word against her.  Go 'Shy!

I... actually really loved this episode.

Including the about face at the end where Discord basically felt like his small little victory was hollow.

He's a being of chaos, chaos isn't inherently evil.

Also, the way he said "Friendshipismagic" at the end made me laugh.  John de Lancie delivered that line perfectly.

Also, to the people who were WANTING him to stay evil to prove the whole "some people just aren't worth it" ... it's a kid's show.  What the fuck did you think was going to happen?  That would have been an unhappy ending.

Also, in regards to Angel... to be fair, Angel kinda earned a little bit of buttmonkey status.  He's kind of an asshole at least nothing absolutely terrible happened to him in this episode.

ADDENDUM:

Not to mention, doesn't MLP have kind of a tradition for reforming villains in the first place?  I'm talking about the series as a whole, when they actually bother to have villains.

Hard to say if the aesop would have been too dark as this show dealt with some mature things before not to mention with Transformers Prime

I hope you guys aren't using spoiler tags on account of me.  Yeah, I think spoilers are annoying, but I usually don't visit discussion threads if an episode has AIRED and I haven't seen it.

If something hasn't aired, that's when it really bothers me if spoilers are unmarked.

I was just happy to see Discord being Discord for so much of the episode.  The fact that he's only going along with the ponies grudgingly because he doesn't want to lose Fluttershy's respect is a bit odd, but not too out of character for him, IMO.

Also, I was at Animate! Miami this weekend and remembered how much I hate certain types of brony.  They totally hijacked the Q&A sessions.  I remember when Billy West was at FSC last summer, we were specifically reminded to only ask one question per person.  This time around, we had Annoying Bronies in line twice in a row for the same VA.  Also, having Andrea Libman do a Fluttershy "Yay" is really cute, but you don't have to make her do the whole fucking cheering scene.  We've all seen it multiple times already.

I don't think I'll be going to any pony VA panels again.  If I get a chance for Tara Strong's autograph, I'll take it, but the Q&A sessions turn too many teenage bronies into complete douchebags.
