I know that when my dad died, my mom was NOT obligated to pay any bills that were in his name, like credit cards. The bank harassed her for awhile, but she legally didn't have to because her name wasn't on the card.

It's sad, but my mom probably received more scam phonecalls after my dad's death than in any other period of her life. People wanting her to pay bills, people trying to get her to invest in this new type of insurance, all kinds of crap. Don't let people take advantage of you.

What about those payday loan things?  I know I have to pay on the ones Mom made me get, but what about the ones in HER name?

If it's in her name, then you shouldn't have to pay it.
Guys, this is getting creepy. Can we talk about cannibalism instead?

First of all, I can only offer condolences on your loss and encourage you to stay strong in this time. I myself have a mother that is seriously ill, she is a Type 1 fragile diabetic (which is apparently the worse kind of diabetes) and has a kidney transplant that has lasted for 7 years and still is functioning. She has recently been hospitalized twice this year, the second hospitalization confirmed that she has five blockages in her heart... but... they also found a tumor in her intestine and she has been diagnosed with cancer, a treatable form and she is currently in a rehabilitation center. However, this thread is not about my mother but yours so I just want to say that I have lots of sympathy for you and I will keep you in my thoughts and everything will turn out ok as you have support from relatives and you have support here. So...

(((hugs)))
