An Australian baseball player out for a jog in an Oklahoma neighbourhood was shot and killed by three "bored" teenagers who decided to kill someone for fun, police said.
Christopher Lane, who was visiting the town of Duncan, where his girlfriend and her family live, had passed a home where the boys were staying and that apparently led to him being gunned down at random, Police Chief Danny Ford said Monday. A 17-year-old in the group has given a detailed confession to police, but investigators haven't found the weapon used in last week's shooting, Ford said.
...
"They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: `There's our target,"' Ford said. "The boy who has talked to us said, `We were bored and didn't have anything to do, so we decided to kill somebody."'
He said they followed the 22-year-old Lane, a student from Melbourne attending college on a baseball scholarship, in a car and shot him in the back before driving off.
I dearly hope they get tried as adults.
(It may be of interest that while Oklahoma leads the US in death penalty executions per capita, these three, being 15, 16 and 17 years old cannot receive the death penalty per Roper v Simmons which requires that offenders be at least 18 years of age at the time of the offence.)
-
I fervently hope that these fuckers get beaten half to death by an angry mob.

The whole time I thought Texas was the "capital punishment" state (and one of the many shames of my home state).

Well, Texas leads in number of executions. (Virginia is second and Oklahoma is third.)

WHAT THE FUCK!?

If you want to do something stupid, do something where you don't have a chance to be executed.

If you want to do something stupid, do something where you don't have a chance to be executed.
But that requires not being a complete fucking dumbass. That's just too much to ask of some people.

True, but I just have to wonder about the thought process behind this.

Death would be too good. Hope they rot in prison.

Probably about right.

These motherfuckers are the scum of the earth. They deserve to rot for something so horrible.

I want to chip in to fly the victim's largest, toughest male friends in from Oz so they can feed these little shits a whole car park worth of gravel.

You mean YOU'VE never casually murdered random people every time you got bored?
Someone's a bad supervillain in training.
-
....
No, too early in the day, try again in a few years.
Seriously, how do people like that even exist? Shouldn't there be some deep, primal instinct that keeps us from killing at random?

It's called a conscience.
Some people are born without it.
Other people are taught not to have it.

Apparently its pretty fun.

This makes me want to take a drive down to Oklahoma...

So, follow-up (from the same article as in my original post):
With the simplest of motives — breaking up the boredom of an Oklahoma summer — three teenagers followed an Australian collegiate baseball player who was attending school in the U.S. and killed him with a shot to the back for "the fun of it," prosecutors said Tuesday as they charged two of the teens with murder.
...
REDACTED, 16, and REDACTED, 15, of Duncan were charged with first-degree murder and, under Oklahoma law, will be tried as adults. REDACTED, 17, of Duncan was accused of using a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon and accessory to first-degree murder after the fact. He is considered a youthful offender but will be tried in adult court.
Oh, and then the politicians react...
Former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer criticized the National Rifle Association and asked Australians to avoid the U.S. as a way to force its Congress to act on gun control.
"Tourists thinking of going to the U.S.A. should think twice," Fischer told the Herald Sun.
"This is the bitter harvest and legacy of the policies of the NRA that even blocked background checks for people buying guns at gun shows. People should take this into account before going to the United States. I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the three teenagers, [but] it's a sign of the proliferation of guns on the ground in the U.S.A. There is a gun for almost every American."

Something odd I found:

As you can see, there's something rather strange about this picture.

....what?

I smell Facebook photos of themselves, there...
so much for keeping the names out of the media.

Names and pictures are in the linked article. I just took them out from what I quoted.

Hey, Aussie politician, there are background checks for people buying a gun at a gun show. Not that it matters as all these kids are under 18 so either they borrowed it from an adult or got it illegally. Do some bloody research before shooting off your mouth.
Although I know plenty of morons with guns who probably misuse them on occasion, likely after saying "Jim-Bob, hold my beer", they have enough sense not to do this.
I'll attest to the fact that summer in Oklahoma can be fucking boring and there's not a lot to do, but fucking hell guys, play some damn Saints Row or something. I build weird shit for fun*. If you're gonna do something illegal why not do something slightly less illegal, like try to steal something? Y'all obviously had a car, so you could obviously have gone and done a whole lotta shit. It's not like y'all are stuck at home with nothing to do like I used to be.
And 'cause I'm surprised no one's asked yet, no, I don't know any of these fuckers. If I did, I'd probably be putting a rush on the stuff below.
*Tazer sword in mid assembly as I speak, waiting for back-ordered stun gun. Next project up might be a spring-loaded wrist mounted dagger, Assassin's Creed style.
-
I guess the idea of a circle jerk never crossed the minds of these depraved kids. Or an orgy.
Those are much less harmful than KILLING SOMEONE... and a lot more fun, too! And you can shoot more than once

Uh, that's not the problem. Check the pictures in the OP's link.

I think my eyesight is failing. The picture I posted had 3 black teens. The ones in the link had 2 black teens and 1 white teen, right.

I think he's just "white passing", as the social justice warriors would say.
In any case, I have the solution. Bring them here, to Australia. Drop them in the most bogun infested area in the country (I vote anywhere in western Sydney) and let the locals know exactly what they did. Just wait a few minutes and the problem will be taken care of.

The middle one looks like he is white, but they chose a picture where it was hard to tell. :/

Then possibly the Michael Jones person has the wrong picture.

I say we strip them naked, then dump them somewhere in the Australian Outback.

I told a guy on Facebook about this, he managed to find the source of "Michael Jones'" photo: link (https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=533663733366477&set=pb.100001685655705.-2207520000.1377059338.&type=3&theater)
Turns out, it's another photo of James Edward.

Oh, for fuck's sake....
You're taking three kids who decided to murder someone because of boredom, and suggesting that they wouldn't have done it if they didn't have a gun? That's not the kind of people who are going to give two shits! You're literally murdering people for fun; how is not having a gun going to make you suddenly rethink everything?
Never mind that the distribution of violent crime in the United States is extremely uneven (it's mostly concentrated in large urban areas, especially poor ones) and even the most murder-prone city in the United States (Flint, Michigan) tops out at 65-66 murders per 100,000 citizens. You're not exactly likely to get blasted by thugs every time you walk out on the street. A major part of the apparent violence of the United States comes from its large size and high population, and how many of the citizens live in densely populated urban centers that almost always suffer higher crime rates no matter what country you come from.
But no, actually understanding crime in relation to population and economic factors and how it's unevenly distributed would actually require intelligence and willingness to be educated. Can't have that in politics.
-
Someone never told these kids there were things they can shoot that - while serving their urges - do not carry the same penalty as murder.
All the same, given Oklahoma, they're set for death SOMEHOW.
I really cannot say very much more. I lack the moral authority to condemn anyone for anything. I've seen it before, heard of similar before.

It's called a conscience.
Some people are born without it.
Other people are taught not to have it.
Some lose it via trauma. Some get it back. Been there, done that. I get where their minds are coming from. Go back to the deepest parts of my depression and this would seem reasonable to me. That said, can we ship them to the sun? Please?
-
Of course now people are saying, "A white guy got shot by black guys! Where's the justice?! Where's the outcry liberals/Al Sharpton/Jesse Jackson/Obama?!"
Completely missing the point that these guys got arrested immediatly, without national outcry, and the victim's background wasn't looked into instead of the shooters'.
