Quote
Lawmakers in the Great White North are debating a bill that will pulverize what’s left of online privacy for Canucks.

The Investigative Powers for the 21st Century Act (Bill C-51) is legislation that isn’t new to Canadian Parliament, but after a series of additions and other changes, lawmakers there are expected to begin discussion on it this week. If passed, law enforcement there will be able to monitor all Internet and telephone activity from anyone, anywhere in the country, without having to obtain a warrant.

According to the Calgary Herald out of the province of Alberta, a Conservative-majority government is likely to pass the bill.

This bill will make it mandatory for telecoms providers, ISPs and search engines to disclose subscriber information, including name, address, IP address, and email address, to law enforcement officials without court oversight. It would also require costly upgrades to these networks to enable new surveillance capabilities.

This bill scares the hell out of me. I really wish something like this wouldn't pass, but I know it will because the Conservatives aren't accountable to little people like us, and they can do whatever the fuck they want. I don't want this privacy-killing law, which I guess makes me a supporter of child pornography according to the arguments posed by the jerkoffs in expensive suits in our government.

All Canadians should download Firefox and then use JonDo.

That sounds to me like the thin end of a very nasty long wedge

Because law-abiding citizens have nothing to hide, right? ::)

If I was in Canada I would be downloading programs like Tor. I'm sure any Canadian members of Anonymous will go apeshit soon.

But don't you know, guys? If you are against this bill, then obviously you must be a child pornographer (http://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/story/2012/02/13/technology-lawful-access-toews-pornographers.html). There is literally no possible reason to be against it, other than you wanting more child pornography to be distributed over the internet.

Is that what you want? Is it?!

I hope the Canadian people vote Harper out soon! He's hellbent on turing an intelligent, sane, Progressive nation like Canada into Dumbhickistan!

You wont win, Harper! The future belongs to the PROGRESSIVES!

The tide's slowly turning! The OCCUPY MOVEMENT has come! Anonymous is doing their thing & the Revolution will not be televised.

The majority of Regressives are older people....The majority of young people are Progressives. The old Regressives will die soon! It'll come....The Earth will heal under Progressive Values, eventually!

The Regressive's days are numbered! Oh sure...they may win some battles & come ahead...but in the end, they'll implode, shrivel & die. Regressives will win many battles but Progressives will win the War! As long as we speak out & fight, we will win! We can do it! Start at the lowest levels of government - Mayor, Schoolboard, etc....then work your way up! Copy what the far-Right did! Unite and be organized & PLAY TO WIN! Yes, they have more money but we can RAISE money! Yearly music festivals, Progressive-run businesses, etc. can raise money, etc.

You have to be pragmatic, not naive, realistic yet idealistic,  optimistic, watch out for psyops/CONTELPRO/Dirty Tricks/assassinations from "The Man", lest they win another battle.

The Dream didn't die at Altamont Speedway & The Tate/LaBianca Homes! It went dormant & will rise again. As long as someone has that spark, the dream is alive.

I admit, I write things in a hysterical fashion & say things that are "Left-Field". I apologize for that. I also speak in spiritual terms & I know most of you are Atheists & Agnostics, which is PERFECTLY FINE. Please don't lump me with the fundies & religious nuts, please.

That said, I'll be DAMNED if the Regressive bug overtakes Canada & Sweden!
