Plus they need the trade just as much as you do.
I'd say they need it more than Australia. Australia at least has a robust service sector to fall back on. China on the other hand, has an economy that's driven almost entirely by manufacturing. If they were to lose a major supplier of resources, let's just say it would really fucking hurt.

It's why the mining sector is such a seller's market right now.

Not necessarily, the Reserve Bank (and more than a few economists IIRC) have stated that Australia is on a two speed economy, without the mining boom we would be in the shit. As it is many other sectors are weakening. Also, close trade links didn't stop Europe from going to war in 1914. But then again, I guess the relationship between them was different compared to Australia and China.

Yeah, losing that particular market would definitely hurt Australia, it's just my contention that it would hurt China even more. If current prices are any indication, even the existing supply is a bit lacking.
