Is that supposed to be the Ukraine airline?

Yes, with 63 Canadians on board.

EDIT: Actually 57, per this article.

Do you think the Iranian government should be held partially responsible for Iran Air Flight 655?

Yes of course because if you remember just before Iran Flight 655 was shot down by the Vincennes, the iranians had murdered a US general by launching a missile into Canada killing the US general and the Canadian militia leader he was meeting with, putting the US on high alert that then it was shot down accidentally as it went from Canadian airspace into the US.

....

Or wait that didn't happen and these tragedies both have US aggression as part of their cause but Iran Flight 655 was not preceded by an Act of War on the part of the Iranians.

Wrong. American frigate USS Samuel B. Roberts (FFG-58) was mined by Iran less than three months before the shootdown and there was fear of further Iranian attacks.

During the Iraq-Iran war, where the US were on the side of Saddam Hussein's Iraq. In the Persian Gulf.

Except the Samuel wasn't there to support Iraq, it was there to escort Kuwaiti-owned cargo ships and tankers.

In any case, your defense of Iran's mining could just as easily apply to the drone strike, since it happened mere days after Iran-backed militias attacked the American embassy in Baghdad.

Well I'm not dpareja, but he posted a cartoon that explicitly depicts both Trump and Khamenei both pointing smoking guns over the dead Canadian, so I think it's safe to say dpareja views both as responsible.  I'm at a lost as to why you wouldn't think he does.

Which is bad but they only did to get back at Trump for scraping Obama's deal, which they had been perfectly happy to agree to, and because they were worried about an American attack, since Trump had brought in giant warhawks like Bolton who clearly in favor of a war with Iran.

Trump is the one who started the process of escalation that nearly started a war and may yet.  The Iranian leadership are also very bad people of the two they are less to blame for the current tensions.

Are both responsible? In my view, yes, because the history of US-Iran tensions is a two-sided affair.

We seem to be having a failure to communicate. I'm not talking about the recent shootdown. These events I brought up happened in 1988, and due to the similarities with what's happening now, I thought I'd check to see if dpareja had a similar stance on what happened back then.

Alright, just thought I'd ask.

Well the Ayotallahs are terrible but perhaps you should trace their path to power. Which involved the US removing the democratically elected government of Iran and replacing it with the Shah. It was the resulting problems which resulted in the 'Islamic' revolution. The other point is that none of the incidents we talked about involved a threat to or close to the United States (there was no Iranian Cuban Missile Crisis). All these events were very close to Iran. You know so that they might feel threatened.

More Garrison:

Spoilered because it's massive. You know you have to really love Trump's wrinkly orange balls to think he is operating strategically rather than by whim. Trump himself says he works off his gut.

He would be delusional enough to think that Trump is some kind of mastermind who's steps ahead of everyone, and not an impulsive liar.

I agree. Khomeini and Khamenei are, on the whole, terrible people, and the US has provoked Iran time and time again.

That doesn't mean Iran's done nothing to provoke the US.
