Evolution in action- World's first hybrid shark found
« on: January 05, 2012, 12:09:03 am »
Off the coast of Australia.

http://news.yahoo.com/world-first-hybrid-shark-found-off-australia-070347608.html

Rule of Yahoo is in effect (Do not look at the comments, lest you know despair). Scientists from the University of Melbourne ID'd the shark as a hybrid, and a number more have been found off the coast. Scientists say that this is the sharks adapting to the warmer overall climate.

I already broke the Rule of Yahoo, and have seen the creatards already scrambling to cover their asses.

Really? Because I could totally see creatards citing this as "proof" that macroevolution is impossible or something like that.

^That's what I meant by them covering their asses. They don't want to acknowledge that the evidence is RIGHT THERE. It leaves me shaking my head at their willful ignorance.

Now it's only a matter of time before sharks develop the ability to walk on land, and then we're totally screwed.

And in the meantime, they're just as likely to have developed frickin' laser beams attached to their heads.

Long as they don't develop air bladders that allow them to fly through the air chasing us.

Further proof that sharks are more successful creatures than humans, and the epitome of evolution.

Let us bow to our carnivorous overlords!

To anyone who actualy understands evolution, this is a classic case of two closely related species being interfertile.
To a YEC,  it's just sharks mating with sharks, to produce sharks. YECs dont even know that there are different species of shark.

OK so a while ago I asked if it would be possible for a species that has been absorbed into another population by hybridization to later re-emerge from that population, and I was told that if two species can successfully hybridize and form fertile offspring, they're not really separate species.  Is this correct?

I was wondering about this regarding the sharks, and also coyote-wolf hybrids, which are breeding successfully even though they seem to suffer a hit to fertility rates.

Long as they don't develop air bladders that allow them to fly through the air chasing us.

Air bladder would just make them float on the surface. They would need a bladder filled with something lighter than air and it would probably have to be pretty huge to make them float.

Sharks shaped like a puffer fish slowly floating trhough the air, dreading every powerful gust that would throw them off their course... Yea I can't see that being scary.

Now if sharks grew WINGS on the other hand... Scratch that, sharks with hands is already scary enough. They might start using tools and weapons.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

I said it once I'll say it again: Frickin' laser beams on their frickin' heads. Now.

But we totally need another creature with huge fuckin' teeth on land. Don't give the sharks any ideas about feet or legs!
