Sounds like he got the book thrown at him for 19 lesser charges, unfortunately, and all that prison time adds up to at least 20 years, if he serves his time concurrently. The treatment of Manning by the U.S. government has been shameful, and they have communicated to future whistleblowers that the U.S. justice system must be evaded at all costs.
Consumption is not a politically combative act — refraining from consumption even less so.
