Goddamnit, Western Australia, what the fucking hell is wrong with you? I thought we figured out by the end of the 60's that torturing people doesn't exactly alleviate any mental health issues.

This is why there needs to be a system for keeping morons out of office.

Wouldn't that exclude everyone in Western Australia?  :P

Gee, thanks.  ???

yet inextricable thoughts still weave / Introspection
fabricated for battle / No time has been wasted

the cranial freezer, paranoia is the bastard and I
find genius Petrify / Paralyze

This is bizarre. I can't imagine how people think this is justifiable in any way.
Guys, this is getting creepy. Can we talk about cannibalism instead?

*sarcastically* Not like anyone who's not a cisgendered heterosexual WASP is a person anyways. That's probably how they're cool with it. *vomits*

To clear up a misconception: modern electroshock, now rebranded as Electro-Convulsive Therapy to eliminate this exact association, is a lot more useful and specialized than its barbaric predecessor.  ECT can get results where other forms of treatment fail.

That said, a lot of this bill is terrifyingly general and moronic.  Though, I could easily see part of it being used against the likes of Scientologists to get their kids any actual mental help they might need even if their retard parents think the doctors are trying to steal their soul or some horseshit.

I think that's the general idea. A lot of very bad laws got their start because of very badly phrased, very moronically understood real-world issues. And then you get someone dutyfully following the idiotic letter of the law, or abusing it to support nefarious ideologies, and there are no proper way to fight that in our bureaucratic society...

It's not so much the ECT that concerns me as the sterilization portions. Particularly this:

maturity or understanding to make reasonable decisions
about matters relating to himself or herself — the
Family Court has authorised the sterilisation procedure
 to be performed;

Yeah, I have no issue with ECT, and I can see the good intentions behind this. I can also see the good intentions behind sterilizing the mentally retarded. That doesn't mean it's a good or just or right idea.

Utterly daft.

A child who doesn't have sufficient maturity or understanding to make reasonable decisions? So... a child?

Using that, I could litteraly sterilise everyone under the age of 15. And probably a lot more over it.

I assume that they still require an actual reason for the sterilisation, it's just that in case of someone unable to make decision for him/herself the sterilisation can be ordered to be done regardless of their opinion.

That's how it goes in Finland and Sweden at least...

Yeah...

Still, that's an awfully vague and universal way of putting it, for something so horrible and final.

Did these idiots learn NOTHING from the Stolen Generation? Or hell, even the attempt to wipe out the Native Americans? This makes you indisputably the villain. Why can't they see this?
