I remember my mom and dad arguing whether to change the channel when Star Trek came on after dinner - for the entirety of it's original three years on the air. Mom thought all sci-fi was silly. Dad thought it was great fun and encouraged an interest in real science for us kids. Dad always won the argument, and we watched it as a family. All three of us kids adored Star Trek. We were 5, 11 and 13 when it debuted. My two older brothers would always crack up, imitating the soprano who warbled out the opening theme. Good times. We all grew up fascinated by science, definitely inspired by Star Trek and all other sci-fi. Years later, one brother fulfilled a dream and bought a Theremin. Thanks, Spock. Thanks, Dad.
