I know there's a conlang thread in another subforum, so mods feel free to move this if it's in the wrong subforum.
This thread is for anyone on the forum who is
learning another language. It can also be a thread to discuss the languages you want to learn, have learned, or just be a resource-sharing thread for languages in general.
Right now I am learning:
Spanish - doing quite well (but the past preterite tense is a bitch and I can't roll my rrs)
Mandarin Chinese - I was doing well, but my teacher isn't very good, so I'll probably stop the class and start over at some later time
I plan on learning:
Russian (Good to know if you plan to go into the technology field where I live, also there's a lot of resources available)
Tagalog (I have a beginner's book on this already)
Italian (I found an
entire high school textbook on this in my basement)
Arabic (Modern Standard Arabic of course, I'll try to pick up the details of the gajillion or so dialects later)
French (because it's a Romance language like Spanish, and I wanna Catch 'Em All)
I want to learn (even though I have no chance):
Polish (I took a look at the phonemes and cried)
Basque (OVER 9000 CONJUGATIONS)
Korean
isiZulu (It has click consonants!
)
Swahili
Maltese (Because it is a Semitic language written in the Latin alphabet with Italian loanwords, I find it very interesting.)
