Spent the weekend at Metrocon in Tampa,
cosplaying as Harry Dresden. Not only did a surprisingly large amount of people (easily in the two dozen range) recognize me, but the character is so uncommon at conventions that everyone who did see me totally nerded out. People would scream from across the hall or while on escalators, run in for hugs and pictures, and generally squee and literally have their jaws drop at seeing it. I put a lot of effort into the costume, wearing all the jewelry and hand-carving a staff with runes (with appropriate symbols for a Dresden staff, based on the Elder Futhark alphabet and its use in divination), so people were in total geek mode.
I'm glad I got to make so many people happy; one short Tony Stark told me that I made his night. It's going to be a permanent part of my growing cosplay stable, and I'm going to be adding even more detail as time goes on: a SplatterCon t-shirt, business cards to hand out to people who get it, the mid-series shield bracelet and force rings, and a new staff surface with more runes carved in better.
